Matthew 6:25-34

25) “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26) Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27) Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28) “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29) Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30) If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31) So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32) For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34) Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Lord, today I lift up ___ to you. Please help her to embrace your admonition not to worry about life, nor what she will eat or drink. Help her not to sorry about anything related to her body nor what she will wear. She knows full well that life is more than food and the body is more than clothing. Now help her completely internalize all of this. May she look at the way the birds — and take note that they don’t sow or reap. They don’t store anything in barns, yet you feed them and keep them. Help her to recognize her own worth in your eyes and realize that she can’t add anything to the years of her life by worrying.

Lord, you know that she’s not stuck on herself. Just help her at all times to see how the flowers grow. They don’t go to any trouble. They don’t feel like they have to worry. Help her realize that, in spite of all his riches, not even Solomon could outshine them. May she completely breathe in the fact that if you can take care of the flowers and grass, neither of which has the life that she has, then He can take care of her. Her faith is strong, but may it be stronger still. May she not worry about what the future will bring – whether it’s related to food, or drink, or clothing, or sickness, or anything else. May she just be able to do her best to serve you and live as carefully as she can for you, then let go of everything else. Others seek after these earthly concerns. Others are anxious about health or disease or the body. May she recognize that she can’t change anything by worrying. May she seek you first. May she simply desire to make you happy. If she does that, Lord, would you please just make HER happy. May she recognize that tomorrow will have plenty of new concerns and NONE of them will change based on worry. They will only change if you change them. May she dwell in the moment — and live for you constantly.

In Jesus’ might name I pray,

Amen
