https://christianaudio.com/free usually offers a free audiobook each month — but folks haven’t stopped talking about the free book for January, Competing Spectacles by Tony Reinke. Highly recommended by one of our team members in North Africa, the book offers us practical steps to redirect our gaze away from the world and toward Christ.

ChristianAudio wrote, “We live in a world full of shiny distractions, faced with an onslaught of viral media constantly competing for our attention and demanding our affections. These ever-present visual ‘spectacles’ can quickly erode our hearts, making it more difficult than ever to walk through life actively treasuring that which is most important and yet invisible: Jesus Christ. In a journalistic style, Tony Reinke shows us just how distracting these spectacles in our lives have become and calls us to ask critical questions about what we’re focusing on.” Remember – this is free only through January.
I see nowhere on this page to get the free download. Any suggestions?
Steve, what would we do without faithful readers like you who catch us in our mistakes! : ) We’ve added the link to the original item — where it should have been in the first place. https://christianaudio.com/free
I just finished the audio book today and will likely purchase a hard copy. I wholeheartedly endorse Reinke’s book for profound awareness and action, personal reflection, discipleship application, meaningful conversations, and even parenting. He doesn’t waste words and his style and call are humblingly prophetic for our age and personally penetrating. And I don’t even own a television or participate in social media. Reinke’s previous book *12 Ways Your Smartphone Is Changing You* has been similarly impacting on me.
One snippet from Reinke’s book quotes David Foster Wallace (author of *Infinite Jest*): “Our entertainment sucks away our spiritual energy. Over-consuming on amusement drains our soul’s vigor. Just as my time is a zero-sum game, so is my spiritual energy, my affections, and my bandwidth for awe.”
May we enjoy God’s good gifts, maximize ministry tools, and embrace the real battle that is before us as good soldiers of Christ Jesus.
