The place to start is with the learning needs of the students rather than a random curriculum that MAY suit one group but be far off the mark for another.
Taking a curricbulum of the shelf is as likely to be a failure as it is a success. So define the learning outcomes first.
yes, also take into account cultural orientation. Andrew DIPROSE
We are an equipping ministry, equipping 7,000 indigenous pastors and church leaders with a biblically based curriculum of over 550 hours of in class study through 13 courses. Our core philosophy is the discipleship relationship where the teacher models Christlikeness and ministry effectiveness. The teacher uses the curriculum as a tool as he equips them for effective ministry. A class under a qualified teacher meets together for 3-5 years together. Our curriculum focuses on the basics of what a servant leader needs to be, do, and know for effective ministry. We have over 5,000 graduates who are serving effectively in a variety of ministries. Many of them have gone on to pioneer new churches (about 1,000). We serve in 37 countries with 75 full and part time servant leaders, mostly nationals from the country where the classes are conducted. 99% of the classes are led by qualified nationals.
I have recently been studying issues relating to HONOR and SHAME and ministry in Honor Shame contexts & as much as I appreciate the idea of the resources mentioned hither to and would add the usefulness of DMM materials provided by the Watsons and others (see noplaceleft.net for various ideas and also You tube videos of the No Place movement- see https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC790Pc6SPNAcpf3s8q5qJrg) I would caution all of us to avoid using materials relating to a “Guilt oriented” context without taking into account the Honor and Shame context.
I am a lecturer in Cultural Anthropology for Intercultural Witnesses in Italy and am beginning to see major problems which have come about due to discipling and mentoring of people in Central Southern Italy (even acquired relatives) without taking into consideration “Honor Shame” orientation
