Last week, we included an item about 20% of Twitter accounts being inactive (See last week, “10) Fascinated by Twitter? Let’s Not Get TOO Excited”. But one Brigada participants pointed out that the infographic was five years old. Brian added, “It is also worth noting that you should consider the audience you are trying to reach. Twitter gets high usage in some countries. Here in the U.S., Twitter’s own research has concluded that Christian leaders are among the most active users on Twitter. Definitely do more research before discounting Twitter too much.” What else can you tell us about Twitter? Do you use it? … or do you see it as a waste of time? Have you stumbled on any newer stats?
I use Twitter in two accounts and have found it to be exceptionally powerful on a number of fronts.
My “ministry” account (@story4all) talks about all things story and communicates many resources and podcast announcements.
My personal account (@bt4jc) is more a bit of everything.
Through both I have had amazing moments of Kingdom synergy and ministry. We have also been helped, resourced the building of two web sites, received gifts (a free office when our broadband was down for 40 days and a family holiday gift, etc.).
I use it for keeping up with friends globally and have also found out news items on Twitter first … regularly!
If I am honest, I cannot keep up on some days because of work load and too much reading, and I wish I would be able to post more regularly, but Twitter is a powerful tool and remains a blessing!
I, like Bryan, use Twitter from multiple accounts. I get engagement on different quality and quantity on each.
I also engage across a number of Social Media Platforms. According to Klout, over half my activity is on Twitter, followed by only less than 30% on Facebook. The rest, Google+, Klout, LinkedIN, etc. are in the single digits.
I use Twitter and Facebook more than I use the others but I am on the others and discussing.
Remember that Social Media is SOCIAL first. Where are your followers? Twitter may not be for you, if the majority are not on there.
Be safe.
