I know, I know. You thought you’d never live to see the day. But just remember — it’s a phone, not a Mac computer. The truth is though — these iPhone have spawned an amazing renewal of the software industry. These little sub-$10 apps (many of them free!) have created a half million new tools, all of which turn an iPhone into something rather amazing. So — therefore — we dedicate some of this issue to iPhone-related tools. And, from now on, we’ll try to do an “App-of-the-Week” item. Feel free to contribute if you have a favorite. If you’re an iPhone aficionado (or iPad user), you’ll love it. If you carry some other brand, help us identify Android or Windows Mobile equivalents — or whatever else you’re sporting these days!
Nations is a great application for the Iphone or iPad. It was developed by my son Zef Houssney. You can find out tons of information about every country in the world with maps and stats and links.
It is not free, but real cheap.
Enjoy.
Isn’t this about 5 years late? : )
Tripit – keeps your itinerary on your phone.
Next Flight – for when you have been bumped or missed a flight.
Orbitz and Travelocity both have apps for booking flights, hotels and rental cars.
Trip Advisor for finding things nearby when traveling.
5 years late: Maybe. But keep in mind:
The iPhone 1 sold just 500,000 units.
The next model (3G) sold 2 million.
The next model (3Gs) sold 3 million.
The next model (4) sold 5.5 million.
The next model (4s) is the one I bought. :-)
Too late? Only if the value-added has somehow ended.
Macon, yes 5 years late–but that’s me!! I’ve searched and downloaded over 50 apps in the last 2 weeks–having a great time. One I really like is PrintDirect… allowing me (after installing also on my PC) to print to my (again 15 years late) parallel port printer!!
