Does anyone know of a cell/smart phone that has (or could get) software which would allow an incoming call to (A) immediately be responded to via a text message and (B) simultaneously forward the caller’s information to another assigned phone number? If not, would anyone have the ability or interest to develop a little application like this? It would truly revolutionize a system that believers (missionaries and nationals) in North Africa are developing to do follow-up ministry with the seekers who call in on phone numbers after seeing Christian TV programs on satellite. Got a lead or a brainstorm on this or a related resource? If so, just click on “comment” below to add your response.

If anyone knows anyone in the Obama campaign, they might be able to tell you how to do #1. They do a *lot* of stuff with calling software for decentralized phone banking.
If you are able to have a server somewhere… asterisk will do it: http://www.asterisk.org/ . You can buy a cellular module and attach it to a standard PC running asterisk, and write a dial plan to do exactly what you want.
Steve,
I *hope* we can find a solution that doesn’t require a computer at all due to security/mobility issues…
…but to understand this option, are you saying that the phone could be attached to any online PC (which then somehow logs onto the server) or does it have to be attached to the server itself?
Thank you for getting involved w/ us on the challenge. It’s incredibly strategic in the CP work here.
