CHALMERS CENTER TRAINING IN AUGUST — The Chalmers Center for Economic Development at Covenant College, in partnership with Food for the Hungry International, World Vision and World Relief, is offering training in Lookout Mountain, GA USA from August 2 – 11. This training focuses on innovative, best practice economic development strategies and methodologies that can be used in holistic, Christ-centered programs. Specific training is offered in Business Development Services, Promoting Church-centered Savings and Credit Associations and How to Partner Effectively with Large Providers. DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA: MULTI-DISCIPLINED OUTREACH — “megacities”, a YWAM Perth ministry, targets larger cities to see people saved, churches grow, new churches established and city wide transformation begin. megacities has an opening for medical workers, construction, intercessors, children’s teams, youth, community development workers, support / logistics staff, media missionaries, literacy workers, art evangelists, performing artists, teams of all sorts to join with YWAM Perth teams in Durban in a year long outreach.   6. MISSIONS MOBILIZATION TRAINING -– So let’s imagine that God has given you a desire to take the Gospel to the least reached people groups in the world. What’s an appropriate next step? Well one idea is to get some training in mobilizing. Accelerating International Mission Strategies (AIMS) presents an option for that called “Multiplying Missions through the Local Church” June 21-25 at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA (USA). Join dozens of pastors, missionaries, church leaders and students to learn about AIMS training materials and how to network with believers from the United States and other countries to fulfill the Great Commission. All participants will have the opportunity to be certified as an associate and use AIMS materials to mobilize churches in the United States and on the mission field. Registration is $159 before June 1st and $199 after June 1st. Special pricing is available for returning associates and for groups over three.   7. EMAIL GATEWAY TO THE WEB — Emailweb.us has been providing access to the web via email for about 18 months. This is not a text only service, but delivers formatted web pages by email. Emailweb will soon start charging a small fee to cover the cost of additional computers and internet connections, as needed. To make the service affordable to those overseas, the price is based upon the relative GDP of each country. For example: US $18/yr, Hong Kong $12.35/yr, Costa Rica $4.75/yr, Ukraine $2.12/yr, India $1.27/year, and Zambia is free. The service will continue to be free for missionaries.   8. CONSULTANT FOR CHURCH MISSIONS — Here’s a consultant known as “Dr. Dan” who makes himself available as a catalyst for missional international church ministry. Recently he participated in a conference in Asia for missional international church leaders. He has posted on his web page a report on the conference.   9. LATIN MISSIONARY CONSULTATION – Here’s a consultation that will focus on the missionary work being developed by Latin missionaries in Europe. The event is to be held at Stavanger, Norway, on November 8 to 12, 2004. Latin missionaries from different denominations and mission agencies in Europe are expected to attend the event. The purpose of the consultation is to discuss about Latin missionary works in Europe, ministry among international communities, ministry among Muslin communities in Europe, etc. The speakers include Asaph Borba and Thomas Blackaby.   10. DO WE NEED A COURIER-BASED REMAILING SERVICE? — Is there sufficient interest in the Brigada family to establish a courier based remailing service? Your first class mail, magazine, weekly papers even books could be mailed in 1 – 5 pound units weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. If our aggregate quantity is large enough, it would be at 6 – 7 dollars a pound with a 5 – 8 day arrival depending on where in the world you may be. This service would be actual cost of the courier service plus a modest handling fee. Here’s a Brigada participant that wants the service, but must have a volume of friends who also want it, to get those great negotiated low rates.   11. FREE WINDOWS ANTIVIRUS SOLUTIONS — We’re receiving varied feedback from last week’s recommendation of “F-Prot”. Apparently, DOS-based scanners don’t cover quite everything. Joel, a Brigada participant, reminded us that we need an antivirus that not only scans when you ask it to, but stays in memory and scans every file that is “accessed” on your computer. “Ideally, you probably want an antivirus program that can scan your email as well, since the current crop of viruses are all email based. There was an article in PC World magazine reviewing four free Windows antivirus scanners. http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,113462,00.asp Each of these provides on-demand and on-access scanning, and two of them provide email scanning as well. For free! Of course, there’s also web-based scanners available from all the major antivirus companies: Panda, McAfee, PC-cillin, and Symantec … But like F-Prot, they can’t stay running on your computer, so they’re really only useful as a “second opinion” when you’re just sure you have a virus, but your scans come up clean.   12. BACKING UP: GREAT SOLUTION — Finally picked up a Maxtor “One touch” external hard drive yesterday. You see, I heard back from the data retrieval company (at least the first one). They said my drive is hopeless. So I figured I’d better get started backing up the new one. It worked pretty flawlessly and now I have a complete image of my new drive. You can pick them up at any computer store. Great solution.
