GLOBAL GLIMPSE FOR THE GOLD
Thousands of volunteers with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and Atlanta area churches gave this year’s Olympic Games eternal rewards. YWAM assembled 4,000 for the event with many working in security or hospitality positions. Hundreds of trained street evangelists and ministry teams from across the globe waited eagerly to be led to individuals who were ripe for the Kingdom. Reports came in daily to YWAM’s web page telling how Jesus’ saving grace touched yet another heart. Many visitors from countries where the Gospel is restricted had their first opportunity to meet a Christian and talk about Jesus.

Global Glimpse is compiled each week by John Hanna, Caleb Project, Littleton, CO.

GET YOUR MISSIONARY A CAR!
car Remember the query about where to get missionary cars? Well thanks to Paul Verhagen for reminding us of Missionary Auto Truck Service (MATS), right here in my own Cincinnati, Ohio! MATS works out leasing/buying deals with auto dealerships and can be contacted at mats@tso.cin.ix.net. Chuck Schroth will answer. Thanks Paul!

NOTHING NEW UNDER THE HUSSEIN
For those wondering, it appears that nothing much new has taken place in the case of Robert Hussein. Please do keep praying that God would arrange a good way out for this believer who has openly accepted Christ.

YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD VERSION 2.0
Now you can get You Can Change the World, version 2, with 26 new countries, 26 new people groups, prayer requests for all, etc. Featured are Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Trinidad, Syria, Buryats, Pygmies, Acehnese, Dayak. Daphne Speaggett was apparently the editor. Those who own the first version (one of the last works by Mrs. Patrick Johnstone) can attest to its powerful appeal to children. For more information, look at http://www.zondervan.com or call 616-698-6900, or fax 616-698-3439.

WANNA DO A RESEARCH EXPEDITION?
Beavercreek Christian Church (BCC) and Team Expansion are jointly in the process of recruiting researchers for the 1997 Yanadi Research Team to India. This Phase 1 PACE (Church of Christ/Christian Church) mission project includes one month of intensive pre-field research training, three months in-country research in rural India, and one month of debrief (write final strategy document, compile photographs, slides, etc.). The time frame for this effort is December 28, 1996 to May 1997 and requires a five month commitment from researchers. In addition to a good knowledge & understanding of the Bible, interested persons should also have ability in the following areas: Strong and maturing Christian walk, analytical thinking, effective writing, academic proficiency, overseas experience desired, personal initiative, interpersonal relations skills. For more information: Contact Eric Derry, Team Expansion, Yanadi Project Facilitator as soon as possible at (513) 429-0541 or email Yanadi Brigada Conference moderator David Porter at drporter@xc.org. Researchers would need to raise a minimum of 1/2 their own financial support.

THE REPUBLICANS LEFT SAN DIEGO… BUT YOU CAN NOW GO WITH THE CHINESE!
Thanks to Bob Norsworthy, of International Students Incorporated, who wrote this past week to offer this special opportunity to all Brigada Today readers: “ISI, in conjunction with numerous other ministry partners will be hosting an evangelistic, world view conference for Mainland Chinese students and scholars June 20-27, 1997, in San Diego, California. The conference, titled “China ’97…At the Crossroads” will highlight the legacy of Mainland Chinese students and scholars who have come to the United States to study, and their achievements upon returning to China. The conference will challenge both non-Christian and Christian PRC students and scholars to consider the evidences for God and Christianity, Christian beliefs, issues of spiritual growth, China and Christianity, and a track covering issues such as Biblical principles for marriage and family life, and dealing with issues of suffering and oppression. ISI and others are in the process of raising sponsorships to help defray the cost for PRC students and scholars to attend this conference. The week long event will couple an experience of staying in American Christian homes throughout the San Diego area with the conference, and an opportunity to visit Disneyland, Sea World, and other southern California attractions. The cost for the students and scholars will be $125.00 for the week, inclusive of airfare, meals, lodging, and all conference costs. ISI would like to invite any Brigada readers who are involved with ministry to PRC students and scholars to attend the conference and bring students with them. You may respond to this event through e-mail by contacting Bob Norsworthy, Vice President of Ministries for ISI at BobNors@aol.com. ISI is trusting the Lord for 400 Mainland Chinese students and scholars to attend this life changing event.”
[Ed. note: Bob, this is a tremendous offer. I don’t know how you can do it, honestly, for that price. If readers start saving now, it seems like anyone could put together the funds to participate by next June! Thanks for your energy and effort in this regard!]

CALLING ALL OBEDIENCE-ORIENTED EDUCATORS
One project we’ve been tooling away at for quite some time is how to give on-field workers some kind of “plan” or list of principles for developing their on-field ministries long-term — a kind of “best case scenario” of what key issues should be covered in launching a new church abroad.

Happily, I now think I’ve found at least a major piece of that missing ingredient, in the form of George Patterson’s Obedience-Oriented Education principles, as spelled out in his early writings, but made much clearer in the Church Multiplication Guide (William Carey Library, 1993, $10) that he and Dick Scroggins authored. While a missionary in Central America, Patterson developed 62 booklets for Theological Education by Extension and in the Guide, he explains how to implement them. He lists 162 key issues that each new church planter will face . . . and many are very adaptable to cell church models (in fact, Patterson treats that very specifically). If you are an on-site missionary using this approach, would you please drop me a brief note as to how it’s worked out so far? We’ve already come across users in Chile and Thailand and are sure there are many others. If you’re interested in trying it, order the book at 1-800-MISSION in the USA and please let us know what you find (outside the USA, Fax 918-794-0477 or write PO Box 40129, Pasadena, CA 91114, voice 818-798-0819).

THANKS FOR THE OUTPOURING OF LOVE FOR MY SILENT VOICE!
Thanks to the many who took time to send a note of encouragement. I’m fully back at the office now, . .. though still not up to speed talking on the phone! My voice comes across very quietly . . .and I can’t get any enthusiasm or “oomph” in it yet. I see the surgeon on the 23rd of Aug., then immediately begin voice therapy. Thanks for your prayers.

Recently, I caught wind of a co-worker in another “international” office of a major mission organization. Last week, he was hospitalized with severe clinical depression, unable to even eat. This reminded me of just how fragile our inner “self” really is. I don’t yet have “clearance” to give this individual’s name, but would you pray just the same, for a moment, right now, as you’re reading this, that God would work mightily to lift him up and give him renewed strength and vigor to face the challenges of future days??? Thanks. I have a feeling that the Lord will know the name of the one for which you’re pleading.

And . . . I hope you have a wonderfully speech-filled day! :-)
Doug
