it provides safeguards like a prohibition against ” any form of accusation of apostasy and incitement to violence.” What’s more, Article 6 essentially guarantees “freedom of belief and conscience.” If we understand this correctly, the constitution itself now permits atheism, as well as any other religion… and all this, without penalty of law. If this is true, the people of Tunisia are finally living out the teachings of the Qur’an, which asks Muslims to protect, not punish, the “People of the Book,” and others who do not follow Islam.
