The dates are October 3-November 4, 2011. That’s when Asia’s Center for TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) will conduct an intensive, five-week course leading to a TESOL certificate. This certificate is supported by Cornerstone University of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, and consists of 120 hours in class and 20 hours of practicum (10 hours observing and 10 hours teaching). This course is held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The same course is taught once a year in Manila, Philippines. Contact Melody Kuka,
infothai@actesol.com for more information.
Is the TESOL certificat just TESOL or is is CELTA? If it is not CELTA how does it compare?
CELTA seems to be the gold standard these days.
I would love to do this, but only if the certificate received gets you into schools like my American passport gets me into countries. Easy and no hassle.
Because, in Brigada, we don’t have the staffing to forward comments to original item contributors, “Keith,” as a general rule, may I suggest you write the email address included with the item — directly — to expedite your answer. In this case, I’ll forward it manually as a courtesy.
To answer your questions, We are not a CELTA course. We do many of the same kind of activities, cover many of the same topics with the addition of topics focused on our mission statement.
We have a partnership in cooperation with Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids Michigan. Their logo appears on our certificate. We offer professional credits with them. These are not academic credits. You do not receive course hours or a transcript from them. Neither do you receive academic credit from Oxford once you have completed a CELTA certificate.
In our experience with our graduates who have taught in most of the ASEAN nations, schools there accept our certificate and our trainees are well accepted by the other teaching staff.
Like with most schools, during the interview process they will ask you to teach a demo lesson. Once you have passed this then you are hired in most cases.
We endeavor to keep our prices low, keeping it in line with our mission statement.
