There’s no doubt; Nehemiah would have been a faithful Brigada reader. :-) You’ll recall that in his book (the book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament), he hears about a need. You see, the gates of Jerusalem were burned with fire and left in ruins, a situation which brought about mongo humiliation for all of God’s people of that day. Even though the situation seemed far away (it was, geographically at least), Nehemiah took it personally. In fact, in Neh. 1:3-4, we’re told that he wept, mourned, fasted and prayed. Two verses later, he’s already using words like “we” instead of “they.” Nehemiah took a personal sense of responsibility when it came to the things that break God’s heart. Surely, if he were alive today, he would immediately browse to:

and listen to the Hillsong United worship song, “Hosanna.” He’d especially resonate with the section of lyrics,…

“Heal my heart and make it clean

Open up my eyes to the things unseen

Show me how to love like you have loved me

“Break my heart from what breaks yours

Everything I am for your kingdom’s cause

As I walk from nothing to Eternity”

In a way, those are theme verses for what we long to happen at Emerald Hills and here in Brigada as well. We’re trying to heal hearts, make them clean, and open eyes to things unseen. We’re trying to show others how to love just like Christ loved them. We’re trying to open their hearts up… so they break at the very things that cause God’s heart to break. Then we’re trying to help them become everything possible — so the Kingdom can grow in its ability to help others emerge from nothing to Eternity. That’s what Emerald Hills and Brigada are all about. I bet your ministry or church is similar. Together, let’s point people to the only Cause worth pursuing. Thank the Lord that He has given us part in His global work of redemption.
