  1. THANKS FOR THE HELP! — Whoa… We continue to be humbled by those who choose to help us. At the same time, we’d really love to challenge new subscribers and supporters to step up to the plate. Last week’s included: Blessed Hope $17.82 visit An anonymous donor in North Carolina ($30) RKW in Malaysia ($30 given, “to encourage others living in my region to support Brigada.” He added, “May our Heaven Father continue to bless you and all at your end for the helpful service you are providing to our Lord’s work around the globe. Maranatha!”

  3. HOW TO RESPOND TO BOTHERSOME POP-UPS AND FALSE SCREENS — Got a pesky pop-up or a picture of one? Try closing the window by pressing Alt-F4 (Close Window). It’s probably easier than using the ctrl-alt- delete we recommended last week! Thanks to those who suggested this easier approach! There were plenty who also recommended a browser like Mozilla Firefox or a pop-up blocker like Google, or Windows XP Service Pack 2. Still others suggested yet another software choice: Norton Internet Security. But remember, my problem last week was that I had a *picture* of a pop-up. Google was catching all my “real” pop-ups. Still, thanks for all the user feedback!

  7. VERY CHEAP – PRACTICALLY FREE! – INTERNATIONAL PHONE CALLS — VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology has grown up. If you have highspeed internet access and would like to make virtually free phone calls to the U.S. or Canada, and cheap ones to anywhere else, then give Vonage a try. With Vonage, you choose a phone number in the U.S. area code of your choice and receive a small VOIP box (about the size of a highspeed modem) that you connect to your highspeed modem. You then connect any phone to the VOIP box. It’s that simple. It is already being used in countries like Brazil and Belgium and, in theory, should work anywhere in the world that has highspeed internet access. So, suppose most of your friends and family – the ones most likely to call you – live in the St. Petersburg, FL, area. You sign up for a Vonage plan and request a number in the 727 area code. Then your friends pick up their phones, dial a normal seven-digit number, and the phone rings at your house in Timbuktu (assuming you have highspeed internet access in Timbuktu). Plus you can make unlimited phone calls to them and anywhere else in the USA and Canada for $29.95 per month. Calls to anywhere else in the world are VERY cheap and the quality is outstanding. If you want to learn more, contact Jason at jason(at)ccibrasil(dot)org(dot)br [replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .], or at his Vonage number, which is 1-727-490-3314. With his referral, you will get your first month free. Please be sure to tell him you heard about it on Brigada.

  8. GET INTO THE GROOVE.NET — Thanks to Justin for the tip about Groove.net. I’ve been trying it out over the past 10 days and, I’ll have to admit, it’s rather impressive. It’s a free download for personal use, although it’s somewhat limited in personal mode. The basic client is $69. According to Justin, it’s being used by a number of non-profits in Afghanistan and Iraq. It allows file-sharing, threaded discussions, online group editing of documents, chat, project management, shared calendars, shared contact database – and all of this is end-to-end encrypted. Justin wrote, “It’s a public company so there’s no question about who owns it. I use it myself, and I think it’s great.” So I’ve been trying it since seeing his recommendation and, sure enough, it offers quite a lot. In fact, as a part of the management of web links, one can even surf *with* another Internet user — *and* it’ll seem like you’re using a VPN the whole time. Pretty groovy! (Thanks again, Justin!)

  9. CHRISTIAN COMICS TRAINING IN MEXICO CITY — The COMIX35/ROX35 ministry will hold their third Christian comics seminar in Mexico in March 2005. It will be hosted again by Misión Latinoamerica de México (MILAMEX) and Revista Prisma. The seminar is aimed at Christian writers or artists and other literature ministers who need training in the specifics of creating Christian comics for evangelism and discipleship. The 3-day course includes sessions on Scripting, Storyboarding, and Visual Storytelling. Attendees do not need to be illustrators. The course will be taught in English and Spanish, with translation. Space is limited so please contact MILAMEX as soon as possible at ccmprisma(at)aol(dot)com [As a means of preventing spam for our contributors, in the preceding email address(es), please replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .] Yours truly, may send emails in either Spanish or English. In Mexico you may telephone MILAMEX at 55 5659-6930. To learn more about the COMIX35/ROX35 training ministry, visit their web site at http://www.comix35.org

  10. VOLUNTEER WITH TALKING BIBLES — There is presently a tremendous need for new personnel to become involved in the world-wide audio Scripture movement. Audio Scriptures International (ASI) in California is appealing to missionary-sending organizations to recruit and assign new short-term or long-term missionaries to work with them in producing and distributing TALKING BIBLES. ASI is prepared to teach both new and experienced missionaries how to use the Backpack Recording Studio to record translated Scriptures and turn them into TALKING BIBLES for non-readers around the world. For more information visit ASI’s website, http://www.audioscriptures.org or contact them via asi(AT)audioscripures(dot)org
