I’m serious. Give this guy 8 minutes and he can leave you with more pregnant quotes than a maternity ward. Where does he come up with this stuff? Do these things wake him up in the middle of the night, or is he just a genius? His topic was “Making the Case for the Truth of Christ in a Pluralistic, Globalized World,” but he had me in the palm of his hand. I can’t even summarize it. I’ll just throw out some morsels. “Why does truth matter?” “There are times when history and the gospel of Jesus converge. Philanthrophy, reform movements, universities, and modern science. At other times, history and the gospel collide — as when the Lordship of Christ triumphed over the emperor of Rome. At other times, history and gospel *appear* to collide, but the gospel speaks to those who oppose it. Likewise, at first sight, a biblical view of truth seems judgmental and reactionary. But a deeper look finds it to be profound, timely, and urgent — even for those who reject it.” (So I’m typing 100 mph, just hoping to be able to pick apart what he said after the fact. It’s too good. And by the way, at the Pre-Lausanne gathering in Dallas, Os stole the show, in my opinion. In 8 minutes. I went up to him afterward and caught him as he was going out the door. I asked him if I should try to get an invitation to come to Cape Town. His response? He paused, then said something elegantly simple. “Pray about it. Ask God. If he wants you there, he’ll take you there.” :-) Here I am. :-)
