24-7 Prayer recently posted liturgy, lament, and thanksgiving prayers for the life and faith of Queen Elizabeth II – they have even posted a families special and one for prayer spaces in schools. The special devotionals on Lectio 365 were originally released on Friday 9th September 2022. You can find these devotionals here: https://www.24-7prayer.com/resource/queen-elizabeth-ii/.
In response to the announcement about the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, today we mark the end of an era by focusing our prayers on the passing of one of the world’s most famous and faithful Christian leaders. Wherever we may be, and whatever we may think about the institution of monarchy, today millions of people are lamenting the loss of a woman whose public service and Christian witness shone brightly for more than seventy years.
We guess that the events of these past few days have seen a profound effect on the entire globe. Our question today is how this affects you – a missionary sent by the Commonwealth, the Church – who sends the missionary, and you – personally?
May she rest in peace, and may God bless the new reigning King.
King of Kings, we give You thanks today for the life and faith of Your servant, our sister, Elizabeth. As countless people remember her life and legacy, may we be inspired anew to live for You in the service of others for as long as we may live. Amen.
Has there ever been a time in Church history where the gospel –as represented in the songs and hymns and scriptures and messages from Archbishop Welby etc that explicitly proclaim salvation in Jesus Christ (and the foundational and central role of faith in Jesus Christ in Elizabeth II’s life)–gone out so extensively in the world–and in one day–since one estimate is that over 4 billion people around the world tuned into the funeral services on 19 September–and surely with translations and subtitles into so many languages so that at least somethinng of the gospel is understood and likely stirring in many many peoples minds and hearts–I believe much, much, much more was happening in the celestial realms in addion to honoring a remarkable woman!
