LIBRARIES AS A MODEL FOR EVANGELISM

Have you started or do you know of public Christian libraries which have been established as a basis for evangelism anywhere in the world? Jim and Laurie would like to hear from you — you can contact them at JLEBarnes@compuserve.com or christianlibrary.cz. They are also specifically interested in being in contact with other English language theological/Christian libraries in Europe and especially CEE and finding out if there is an established consortium or, as a starting point, if there is interest in establishing an e-group through which resource information and ideas can be shared. They’ll prepare a report for us to post here in Brigada Today in a couple of weeks.

WORSHIP, ARTS & MISSIONS (WAM!) WORKSHOP IN ORLANDO

Dave Hall, of Pioneers International, will be leading WAM! Orlando on August 11, 2001 at Reformed Theological Seminary from 8:30 to 5:30. The workshop is for worship leaders, musicians, artists, missionaries, evangelists and anyone with a heart for using the arts to reach the nations. Topics covered will include: God’s heart for all nations to worship Him, Biblical perspectives on worship, and the role of worship in missions and cross-cultural church planting. EVENING OF PRAYER FOR JAPAN

The persecution of Christians has occurred at least three times in Japan’s history. Some Japanese Christian leaders see recent developments in the country as an indication that it could happen again. Therefore they are asking fellow believers around the world to join with them in praying for the leaders of Japan in An Evening of Prayer for the Nation on August 14, 2001. CHRISTIAN COMICS TRAINING IN JAPAN

ROX35 COMIX will be holding another comics (manga) training in Japan on August 3-4, 2001. This will be a seminar/workshop on creating short comic strips and tracts, held at Kyoto Chapel in Japan. All Christian writers, artists, literature ministers, and interested individuals are invited to attend. The teacher will be cartoonist Nate Butler, President of ROX35. MEDICAL TRAINING FOR MISSIONARIES

Elim Bible Institute is slated to begin a two year program to train “International Health Technicians”, classes beginning September 2001. With this training an a medical degree, you could open your own clinic or work alongside an overseas doctor, diagnose and treat diseases specializing in “Tropical and Third World Medicine”, learn to deliver babies, give injections and do minor surgery. TAKEN TO TASK OVER THE TERM, “FORMER SOVIET UNION”

Last week, after including an item that used the phrase, “former Soviet Union”, I was taken to task by someone …. a Russian now living in Minnesota… who didn’t want to be known as a former anything, let alone a former Soviet. So… I guess we should consider a new term — maybe “Eastern block” or “Russian-speaking world” or … even… Central & Eastern Europe. The brother asked… “How long does it take to change perspectives?” I guess… longer than 20 or 30 years, apparently, because “former Soviet Union” seems to have stuck so far! Still, our own mission is in the process of making the change and maybe yours should too!
