Lately, we’ve been thinking a lot about determination. The Bible is full of examples of it. In Mark 2, when four guys try to bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing, the crowds are too great to enter. Instead of giving up, these guys disassemble the roof and lower their buddy down from above in a rather creative solution that OSHA would never have approved. In Mark 2:5, Jesus commended the whole group of 5 (“When Jesus saw their faith”) as he healed and forgave the paralyzed man. Jesus praised the determined widow (Luke 18:1-8) and the persistent friend at midnight (Luke 11:5-13). So let’s ask how this plays out in the missions world. What’s the best example you’ve ever experienced (or heard about) in which a “win” came about through determination? We’ll even open it up to the world of sports – because athletics often serves as a metaphor for life. What inspiring athletic accomplishment keeps you going when the going gets tough? Just click comment. We hope SOMEBODY in the group can find some good upcoming sermon material here somewhere. : )

The story of Ernest Shackleton attempting to reach the South Pole is the great example I’ve ever known. https://www.amazon.com/Endurance-Shackletons-Incredible-Alfred-Lansing/dp/0465062881/ref=sr_1_1?crid=YTYCOJR4XUX&keywords=Shackleton&qid=1636908014&sprefix=Tony+Evans%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-1
