Change. It seems that it’s the only constant these days. Airlines message us 3 times before every flight, changing the departure times, arrival gates, and sometimes even the flight itself.
Not so with our God. Hebrews 13:8 states that, “God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” James 1:17 describes “The Father of the heavenly lights” as one “who does not change like shifting shadows.” When it comes to “heavenly lights,” God is in a universe by Himself. Remember the old hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness?” We are essentially quoting James 1:17 when we sing, “There is no shadow of turning with thee.” Jesus doesn’t eclipse.
Change can be super-good. But when it comes to loyalty to the cause, as Great Commission workers, may we acquire the fire of His faithful character in all that we do for Him and for the unreached. In an epoch of change, let’s steel our character so that we can remain faithful no matter the cost.
Thank you Lord for your example of faithfulness!
Are there areas of your life in which change is helpful? If you have a moment, please click to comment on an example of a time when change can be good. If you can mention someone by name (and not compromise security), please provide an example of someone who was faithful through the decades. Faithfulness and loyalty are in short supply these days. Please give us an example.
Thanks for being part of Brigada!
My friend Dave have been super faithful. As a mobilizer he’s kept in touch with me on my decade-long journey to the field. I recently caught up with him and his wife at a conference in my region and it was quite an encouragement to hear how he’s still faithfully reaching out, using his professional skills to assist the needy, and depending on our faithful Father!
