5) The Mystery of Molecular Machines
The molecular machines are absolutely marvellous. However, the concept of irreducible complexity, meaning that there had to be a miraculous intervention for these machines to exist, is not upheld by science. Much better is to acknowledge that evolution has taken place and that it runs forward to places that are pre-prepared by God. Otherwise are left with a “God of the gaps” – and with more scientific discoveries, the gaps become smaller or non-existent, and so does the faith of those who based their hope on a mistaken approach to science. I just have to say that, as a lover of science, to me, I find this entire area extremely interesting. I just read through the papers referenced above. The authors, I’m sure, would like to believe that their opinions disprove irreducible complexity. But, again, speaking as a lover of science, to me, all they have done is prove that, in their opinions, they think degrees of change can indeed happen through transitions. But the entire subject begs the question – do we observe such changes happening by accident now? The authors referenced above would probably say, “Well it’s because more time is needed.” The truth is, they’re just expressing their opinions, like Behe. At the end of the day, to me, all Behe does is open the door for a lover of science to celebrate what might be a tall order for the theory of evolution to explain. And since no one was there throughout the entire evolutionary process, the truth is, no one knows for sure. To me, ultimately, Behe’s explanations are ALSO opinions. At this point, in my opinion, it’s impossible for opponents to say that Behe doesn’t have a right to his opinion. Behe is a scientist too. He DOES. The fact that they are saying he’s wrong is their opposing view. Science is rife with decades… centuries… in which opposing view duked it out. Either way, it’s an extremely interesting video. : )
