In the interest of being completely forthright, it seems to have been a “best of times, worst of times” year for Zoom, the online meeting platform. Best of times: They’ve finally succeeded in developing true end-to-end encryption. Worst of times: this new cloak-and-dagger DOJ lawsuit against some Zoom employees who carried out an insane campaign against a select group of Zoom users? (Learn more at https://mashable.com/article/doj-accuses-zoom-employee-china-censorship/.) Lesson learned: If you’re discussing something sensitive, make SURE you’ve enabled the new end-to-end encryption capabilities. (Thanks for the link, DS!)
There’s news article after news article documenting the following, and more… An employee is caught handing supposedly encrypted meeting data (this is zoom USA) over to the Chinese government (reason enough? ). They frame a USA user as a child predator (honestly, seriously!!!????). They give online Church meeting data over to Chinese police, who then raid the church meetings, throwing users in jail (isn’t this enough itself? ). They lied countless times about encryption (are they suddenly trustworthy on their encryption capabilities now? ). What could be worse than these? All these are documented by reputablesources! Zoom has 700 other Chinese employees, whose to say they still aren’t lying and doing the same thing now? Why would any mission worker support a company that partners with the police, to raid online Church meetings? Because it’s convenient? I’m confused…. help me understand.
I was top of my school. We call it dux in our country but I don’t even know what encryption means and I got two prizes in French and Latin. You will not gain prizes in assuming I understand computers. I am 87 but still in harness after 60 blessed years.
Hi Richard. Well brother, the way I look at it is that you have history that we need to hear! : )
