We’ve all poked fun at Zoom for the way they’ve seemingly been the primary beneficiary of a crazy self-isolated world full of people wanting to connect. But at least they’re plowing their increased profits into improvements. They’ve improved video- and audio-sharing, waiting room notifications, background noise suppression, lighting, and even video facial touch-ups. See their [long] laundry list of updates at https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/204758419-New-updates-for-Web.
I’ve heard that Zoom is owned and controlled by the Chinese and that they get our private information when we use it. So I’ve missed a lot of Christian ‘meetings’ that use it.
Zoom was started by Eric Yuan born in China and immigrated to the USA. He lives in the Silicon Valley. Google it and find the facts as presented by Google. Everything on the internet is real:)
We need to be very aware of what we are using online, what the content is or who is in the distribution. But as I commented earlier we don’t need to stay away from Zoom or anything else based simply on the ownership. If there is another, more local program available which does the job at a close-to competitive price it should be used. But even at that, so long as no secrets are shared, that is not necessarily bad. As I mentioned previously, if you really feel compelled to keep regular church news from “the other side” it likely isn’t that “classified.” And if you accidentally happen upon someone with a name like Xi Jinping . . . you might want to seed some slightly erroneous facts. I checked an found I’m not on Xi’s Christmas card list, so way I see it he likely has little to gain or lose on my secrets. LOL
