All this “vanishing Brigada” has reignited my interest in email clients. It SEEMs that Outlook people have had ZERO problems seeing Brigada. But several Windows Live users, along with a spattering of Juno readers, and AOL customers have reported that, over the last 5 weeks or so, their Brigadas are coming pure white. If they “select” the text (by dragging over it with their mouse), the text is there. But the color schemes set up in their readers just is not cooperating with the colors in the little plug-in we use to convert the web version to an email version. (It ALMOST has me convinced we should go back to doing it by hand again!) So the question is — what is your favorite email client and why? This past week, a friend recommended EM Client, but even as he did so, he pointed out that Brigada has been invisible in it as well. Rats. Anyway, I tried to install EM Client but the import from years of Outlook didn’t work. (I guess my Outlook database is corrupt. Do I still have to use that ScanPST utility to repair it? Yikes. How 1999 is THAT idea??? Besides, does ScanPST even COME with Outlook anymore?) Anyway, I would have loved to have tried EM Client, but I guess until I repair this archive, I’m stuck in Outlook. Now the GOOD news is that if one could ever get to em Client, one can then export to ,eml files (emails), .vcf files (events), .ics files (tasks), and .xml files (settings).
What clients have you tried and which have worked best for you? Please click “Comment” after the web version of this edition. Thanks.
I’m still using an old one … Eudora 6.2… I’ve tried the web version of Eudora, but wasn’t happy with it. Except for reading Brigada, and a couple of other newsletters, it does what I want and need. For Brigada I switch it to straight text to read. No formatting or colors, but the info is there.
Al
Apple’s Mail has always worked well.
Mozilla Thunderbird work just fine, no vanishing text, etc. It’s free, has a decent calendar/tasks add-on, etc.
I tend to think the issues with blank emails are not related to Outlook, at least not on the receiving end. Outlook is what I’ve been using for several years, and the emails from Brigada are still blank for me, including today’s. I could read it on my Android phone, however. If I wasn’t settled in with an old version of Outlook – contacts and all that, I’d probably use Thunderbird again.
I’ve had no issues whatsoever in reading Brigada emails with Thunderbird as my email client.
I’m using Eudora 7.1, still a great program. Brigada has been invisible for some time. I don’t plan to switch email clients just for Brigada. Sorry.
I’ve been using Eudora for many years’ worth of moons. My main quibble with it is its lack of dependability in sending/receiving formatted text. For incoming email, it doesn’t deal well with the fancier types of html/css formatting. I’ve made up my mind several times to switch to Thunderbird…but am still using Eudora 7.1. I agree with Paul in his assessment of this client.
I wouldn’t use anything other than gmail. Outlook IS so 1999. It hasn’t really changed much since then. Gmail keeps getting better and better every few months with more and more features which helps me manage my email. I especially like the offline capability so that I can use gmail while I’m offline. I created a list of “why gmail is better than Outlook” which you can link to at http://bit.ly/1u3znvQ
THUNDERBIRD! By the same people behind the Firefox browser, lots of add-ins, fantastic integration with Google (both Gmail and Calendar).
I’m using WLM. I read your suggestion: “If they ‘select’ the text (by dragging over it with their mouse), the text is there.” However, I cannot get that to work on my own computer, so I have to log onto the website to be able to read anything, which is somewhat of a nuisance.
We have had no trouble viewing Brigada using……..wait for it……….Outlook. It may be old but ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. At least you don’t have to revert to smoke signals!
