He’s from South Africa. She’s from Zambia. Both contracted AIDS (for differing reasons). Both, in their respective lands, have campaigned for a more compassionate and intentional response to a tragic and rampant disease. Both have discovered that they can praise God in the midst of their affliction. And thanks to modern medicine, both are living fairly normal lives. (They both looked the picture of health.) Cristo’s girlfriend at the time insisted that she still wants to marry him. It’s 28 years later and she’s still HIV negative. So are the two children to which they’ve given birth. Amazing. Cristo quoted Acts 20:24 — “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me —the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.” I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place.
