Melinda’s work recently caught my eye.

Her theme could be defined as Psalm 82:3-4 —

“Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy; Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.”

While living out these verses, she has crawled into underground tunnels to visit with streetkids living in urine-soaked holes; she’s run relay races at midnight with Romanian streetkids; she’s worship-danced on a dump in Mozambique with new believers:  she’s lived in a garbage dump in Mexico; and she’s survived malaria, coups and death threats in such diverse places as Haiti, China, Morocco, Turkey, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Bosnia. Whether she is helping the living recover from a tsunami, or comforting a painter whose hands were chopped off in a war, or assisting the persecuted in places of martyrdom, Melinda has seen the power and presence of God at work time and time again. She’s a part of a new generation that isn’t really motivated by building her 401K or stock portfolio (though someone needs to make sure she’s covering those bases too :-)). I’m excited about the future of missions … because I can see God’s hand at work, calling future Melindas to make a difference, both here on earth and for eternity. Please take a moment today and pray for the Melindas you know. Pray that God will help us understand how best to team up to share Good News and hope for Heaven.
