Long-time Brigada friend, Barb, is asking us for our take on email etiquette… or, one might say, “netiquette.” Where are your best sources? What are your pet peeves? What are your best ideas? I found a really helpful list at…

The guy gives 26 important rules… like… “Don’t default to Reply All”, “Keep emails short,” (oops) :-) “Don’t forward hoaxes,” (how can I highlight that one so everybody sees it!?) “Let people know their email has been received,” “Ask before sending an attachment,” and so on. Good stuff. Where’s your favorite list? What additional items would you add, beyond these 26? Just click “Comment” below and have at it.
For many years I’ve had a file on my computer of 14 suggestions. Doing a web search on the first line (Here are some simple guidelines for electronic mail etiquette) turns up four hits, one of them being http://users.ap.net/~lancelot/gen/newbies.html#NET which seems to be almost identical to my file.
Barb may want to read “The Hamster Revolution” by Song, Halsey and Burress which has many work related email suggestions.
Sending group emails should only be sent Bcc.
From experience this is a good way to infect computers of people you don’t know if something malicious gets attached to an incoming email.
