A Team Expansion missionary with two little boys (2 and 4-years old) is looking for great ideas for family fun. The country where he serves has some beautiful places but like many 3rd World Countries it doesn’t have many parks, playgrounds, etc. If you have an idea or have found great resources please share. He thanks you in advance! Just click “Comment” below the web version of this item.
We installed tether ball in our patio by cementing the pole in a tire. Also, we had family competition with Bocha, known in Italy and southern South America. As teens, a ping-pong table was a great way to unite father and sons–and neighborhood kids. In other words, outdoor and table games from past generations provided recreation and family ties–and outreach.
A simple swing in the yard and playing tag have ALWAYS been a super delight for our girls, now ages 5 and 7. And like the first post, they have been huge magnets for the neighbor kids to come over too!

We bought lazer tag, and after dark would go to a neighboring park (mostly cement, a few bushes etc. While it was a sorry looking place in the daytime, it actually made a good lazertag park in the dark.
We live in an ugly city where it was (and is) difficult to find things to do. When our kids were that age, I loaded them in the truck (often with another dad & kids) and drove out of town to wherever we could find running water coming off the mountain above the city (Note, upstream! although it was still pretty littered, they had hours of fun slopping in the water while i read or meditated, and mom had some quiet time alone.
