  1. SPONSORS MAKE OUR (SECRETARY’S) WORLD GO ROUND! — Thanks this past week to Irving Bible Church, Irving, TX, for their sponsorship gift of $75 toward our Brigada-sponsored secretary. Please visit them on the web at http://www.irvingbible.org/ and if you’re at all ever in the Irving area, please stop by their worship services! Hats off also to the husband/wife team working in Andes Mountains training leaders and overseeing a Bible translation (who sent $100), to the anonymous workers in Western Europe ($25), the one from Eastern Europe too ($100), the gracious reader from Brazil ($5), and another dear friend ($100). We are very grateful. Another participant used the “subscribe” feature to send his regular $10 subscription. What a guy! :-) And hats off to Tom, the Director of MATS, who sent $100 with this note, “Brigada always gets us in touch with those we desire to serve the most: missionaries. You are a blessing; thanks for what you allow GOD to do with your life.” Learn more about them at: http://www.mats.org Thanks, too, to the brother in Seattle who wrote, “Thank you and the Brigada team for your work in serving our Lord with your skills and helping us network with others in similar ministries.” ($100) This and the “Toolbox” gift below, brings us to a total of $5,315.02 collected so far in 2004, nearly a third of the way to our secretary’s hopeful annual salary of $16,140. Unfortunately, only 3 months remain to make up the other two-thirds. If you can help, click “sponsor” in the top menu, or just send a check payable to Team Expansion to: Team Expansion (Brigada secretary), 13711 Willow Reed Dr., Louisville, KY 40299. Thanks! As always, be sure to let us know if you’d like us to promote any particular service or ministry, or if you’d prefer your gift by anonymous.

  2. “TOOLBOX FOR VIDEO STORYTELLING” 15% OFF THROUGH OCTOBER — Here’s a great book on how to write and produce your missionary video, available to Brigada readers at 15% off during the month of October. And a portion of your purchase price still goes to support our Brigada secretary. So please visit http://www.VillageAve.com/Brigada and read the order instruction on that page. The book is a great resource to help you communicate a video story — great for missionaries and ministry workers, too. (Thanks to author John Walton for the $25 gift this past week!)

  3. RESOURCES TO ENCOURAGE MISSIONARIES — A Bible study guide called, “Finding Strength for the Journey,” provides a tool for member care or personal encouragement. Author Janice Lemke drew from experiences as a missionary when writing this series of thirty studies that explores topics such as perseverance in hardship, dealing with depression, handling conflict, and benefit from trials. For Brigada readers, they’ve discounted the price to $5.00, plus shipping. There’s a bigger discount ($4.00 each) for orders of 20 or more. For more information contact cjlemke(at)cs(dot)com [replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .]

  4. FREE TALKING BIBLE — Audio Scriptures International (ASI) in California is offering a free Talking Bible to churches observing a Talking Bible Sunday. ASI wants every church in America to have a Talking Bible of its own. Not only will people who are shut in, hospitalized, vision impaired, or unable to read for some other reason use this Bible – but the entire church will be reminded of the millions of people in the world who have never been able to read God’s Word for themselves – people who need Talking Bibles. Call ASI at 1-800-318-7262 and ask for Dori or e-mail asi(at)audioscriptures(dot)org [As a means of preventing spam for our contributors, in the preceding email address(es), please replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .] and learn how a church can receive its FREE Talking Bible and observe a Talking Bible Sunday.

  5. FREE NEW BIBLE STUDY ON WORLD MISSIONS — “Tell of His Glory Among the Nations” covers many classic Scriptures passages and themes about world missions, and is ideal for those who want to study the biblical basis for world missions and share it with others. Thirteen lessons are well suited for one Sunday School quarter. Great for adults or youth, small groups or individual study. One page per lesson. Easy to photocopy. http://www.mission1.org

  6. PALESTINIAN PRAYER PROJECT — Several organizations that work with Palestinians have put together a Ramadan prayer guide focusing on Palestinians. The daily selection includes stories about real people and places where Palestinians live. Although the emphasis is during Ramadan, the guide includes information about Christians as well as Muslims. This is a world-wide project and the guide is available in pdf format in Afrikans, Dutch, English, German, Korean, Spanish and Swedish. To receive a copy electronically write to: plstnteam(at)yahoo(dot)com [As a means of preventing spam for our contributors, in the preceding email address(es), please replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .]. Specify what language you’d like and that you heard about the project through Brigada.

  7. LEARN MORE ABOUT “VOICE OVER IP” (FREE PHONE OVER THE NET) — To make an informed decision, check out http://www.broadbandreports.com/gbu and read the recent individual reviews. There are other options out there for VOIP that are on par with Vonage. Lingo, another provider, includes several European countries in its $20 unlimited plan and offers Asia and International plans. You can even choose a phone number from other countries. Its referral program gives each party $25 – (So maybe use this as a fundraiser for your mission work?). 2 months of personal experience says that despite mixed reviews Lingo works great! (By the way, if you mention Mike’s name and email address [mikey@mbmsinternational.org], he’ll send the $25 to Brigada if you tell him you heard about it here. He’ll encourage the other party to send a portion too. Thanks Mike!)

  8. GOTTA SEND LARGE FILES? TRY THIS FREE SITE — If you ever find yourself in the position of having to transfer a large file to someone else… maybe larger than you can or should send by email… try http://s2.yousendit.com/ This free service acts as a go-between file-server. Looks like their long-term business plan is to depend on ads, but their privacy policy promises not to spam you. If you’re afraid you’ll be targeted, secure a temporary address for you or your recipient. (Thanks to John for the tip!)

  9. WORLDWIDE INTERNET EVANGELISM FOCUS DAY — An international focus day on web outreach is scheduled for April 2005. The purpose is to equip churches, missions and other Christian groups to use the Web for effective evangelism. There are many ways that you can help this exciting vision to fruition: http://ied.gospelcom.net/helping.php

  10. HAVEN’T DONE MICROSOFT WINDOWS UPDATE LATELY? BETTER! — If you haven’t updated your installation of Windows lately (since Sept. 21, 2004), better head on over. Just click to: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Be sure you install all critical updates. There’s a new threat possible within JPG (picture) files. This is one of the most common files on the web, as well as with digital cameras. If you’d like to read more about the threat, see: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-028.mspx Note that no virus has yet been detected “in the wild.” This is only a threat. But now that the threat is verified, viruses are likely to follow. (Thanks for the tip, Jon! Good catch!)

  11. A YEAR-END GIFT TO SEND TO YOUR FINANCIAL AND PRAYER PARTNERS — Here’s a Brigada reader that has offered to supply gift vouchers with Safari Chalets which you can send to any of your friends/family/prayer partners/financial supporters as a year-end thank you gift. It is reportedly a seven-day-free-accommodation-for-two gift voucher, worth up to $900 US, at any one of Safari Chalet’s Private Game Reserves in South Africa, available during October 2004 to December 2005. It is recommended to book your week for 2005 by December 2004, to make sure you get the week of your choice. Your complimentary gift voucher number is BRIGADATODAY. You will need it when you collect the gift by simply completing the on-line Safari Survey at http://www.safarichalets.com/Survey or email Jacques with the voucher number at info(at)safarichalets(dot)nl [As a means of preventing spam for our contributors, in the preceding email address(es), please replace (at) with @ and (dot) with .] Detail of the Kololo and Moholoholo Game Reserves and the when, what, where, meal and travel costs, will follow immediately after you completed the survey. (Please keep in mind that we have not personally had the opportunity to experience this opportunity, so as is the case in every new situation, we’ll appreciate hearing back from those who try it!)
