That’s the question we were asked this past week. The Brigada participant was aware of…
billed as “The World’s Largest Language Learning Community,” and
billed as “The gold-standard of computer-based language-learning.” The question is, what’s your experience with either . . . and are there other, competing sites, services, and/or apps we should mention? Just click “Comment” below and share your experience please — and thanks in advance for any help you can give.
BBC’s online language study program is not the “best,” but it is free.

I’ve used Livemocha for a little while to practice Spanish. The lessons were similar to RosettaStone. It’s free, but you have to be willing to take time to help those learning English (or whatever your first language is) by listening, reading, commenting on their language efforts. There seems to be a point system which I was not interested in. It didn’t have some of the lesser spoken languages like Nepali.
Voice of America also has lessons/news for English language learners. It’s called Special English. Here’s the link: http://www.voanews.com/learningenglish/home/
For Chinese learning, the hands down best is http://chinesepod.com/
RosettaStone seems to work well for European-based languages but not so well for languages like Chinese . . . .
another wonderful Chinese learning site:

Both the completeness and quality are impressive.
