Today, our Team Expansion Int’l Services team talked about I Timothy 2 during prayer time. We all confessed that we hadn’t invested enough time praying for rulers of nations. (I can only remember *twice* in my entire life being involved in special prayer meetings in which that was the focus.) With all the special ministries focused on prayer, shouldn’t there be a prayer guide about that somewhere on the web? You know… listing the nations of the world, a picture of each ruler, and a little mini-paragraph about issues he or she is facing? I found the CIA World Leaders listing at…
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/world-leaders-1/index.html
But it’s kind of unwieldy for this purpose. On prayer, it’s not specific enough. On everything else, its 160 pages are *too* specific for a simple prayer guide. Haven’t I seen somewhere a world map, with each country listed and each president pictured, … poster-sized? If you know of a resource here, of any kind, please click “comment” below and let us know. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Will you please post it when your question is answered? – this is a huge need!
Not exactly what you are looking for but it does list and give pictures of world leaders…
It also has a may…but gives too much info. there.
check out this site…
http://rulers.org/
actually, you’ll be able to see the posts here, real-time, as they’re added.
Yes fayo, that’s valuable stuff, but not exactly what we’re looking for. Still, thanks.
Doug
Betty, our Prayer Coordinator at Team Expansion, found this on Wikipedia. It’s probably the best I’ve seen yet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_heads_of_state_and_government
Thanks Betty!
The wikipedia site is the site I used for my own prayer handbook some years ago. Since it has links to the various national leaders and the countries that they lead, it is extra helpful. Thank for the reminder, Doug and Betty.
Select “Gov. Leader” from the “Choose a Topic” drop down at http://prayers.prayercentral.net/. Enter the leader’s name in the “name to insert in prayer” field (using the Wikipedia link, e.g., for names). Select the the appropriate gender from the radio buttons and click on “Pray Now.”
This yields a new prayer each day for the leader whose name is entered.
Operation World (latest edition) by Patrick Johnstone has a part in the back with world leaders and space for updating.
Mike, that’s really a cool feature, but as you can tell from the description above, it’s not what we were looking for. Still, it’s a neat addition to the mix here. Thanks.
Penny, the guys at Op. World are on the final stages to publishing a new edition. I know it will help — but it’s not what we were looking for either. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to distribute it at a prayer meeting en masse… and it’ll become out of date very quickly. But still — it’s a great resource.
Doug
This probably is not what you are looking for either, but I used a Time Magazine that had 100 most influential people in the world and then there is a 365 days of praying for the world’s influential people book by David and Heather Kopp–to my knowledge, they have not updated, and it’s old. I LOVE the idea–maybe Time or US. News and World report has done a special issue for the rulers of the world?
I must say, Doug, these are great ideas posted here. Kudos to your wonderful readers and their terrific ideas! FYI – According to a friend at Biblica Publishing, Operation World is now slated for a September release, but Global Day of Prayer is planning a pre-release focus in May.
Doug, do you have any summer interns coming in this year? Perhaps you could put one of them to the task of publishing such a wonderful prayer resource. I would definitely put it to use if there was something available.
Lastly, my own two cents, there is a wonderful prayer focus for the 10/40 nations and their leaders at http://www.win1040.com/1040map.htm. Beverly and her team list the nation’s leader as well as prayer points. An extra focus for the nation might include more information about the leader himself.
Good ideas Wendy and Angela!
To get all that info together sounds unwieldy, kind of like praying for all the unreached people at once. And the world is such a fluid place. Assembling the info would be a huge job, and would soon be out of date. Given how we are so adept at getting onto the web, seems like if an individual or a group wanted to pray for world leaders, they could target an Area. (Surely a list of all the nations would not be that hard to come by, and would not change so much.) Part of the prayer activity could be researching the country, her leaders and key problems; and praying for the timely info. Each participant could bring an agreed-upon amount of info.
