LYRIS UPGRADE IS SLICK

Lyris logoIf you’re one of the many who have had questions about “Lyris,” join the crowd! Many of us have wondered how MAFxc’s conversion from “Majordomo” list software to “Lyris” would affect us as users. Well, although we’re just one week into the cutover process, I can tell you with a conservative “yes!” that Lyris seems to finally be coming together . . . and seems SLICK! For example, in the past Majordomo was MUCH stricter in its interpretation of your commands. Lyris tries to parse out what you MEANT to say and understand it. You can put “subscribe brigada” in the subject line even . . . and Lyris will obey. In fact, if you have to drop off your old address because you’re changing Internet Service Providers, you can even write to and Lyris will figure it out.
(By the way, for conference moderators/owners, Lyris is GREAT news. Though it was functioning like p-o-n-d-w-a-t-e-r for the first couple of days, it has now been speeding up NICELY . . . and the new web interface allows you to point and click at decisions that previously were tied up in cryptic config files that few understood or cared to learn. Thumbs up!) thumbs-up

DISNEY WORLD EMAIL VIRUS

virus Do me a favor. If you get an email about how to win a “Walt Disney trip” (one that sounds more like a chain letter than a real message!), please don’t send me a copy! :-) I already have more than enough. It’s just the latest in a series of mildly harmful “email virus letters” to try to waste your time and mine. The “mildly harmful” nature is that it wastes Internet bandwidth…. so please save my share. :-)

WANT TO HELP COOK UP A NEW MISSIONS TEXTBOOK?

Here’s your chance. Charles Cook 73372.1710@compuserve.com is writing one and would like to learn about missions sites that contain valuable research material that missions students from around the world could access. He’s epecially interested in missions books, journals, and encyclopedias that individuals could access from where they live. He’ll assemble this list and return it to us here in a couple of weeks for all to see. AND he just might mention you in his book! :-)

Thanks to for hosting the Brigada mailing list.
Emphasis is placed on items relating to unreached peoples and challenges faced by those reaching them cross-culturally.

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list. Recently, tons of well-meaning people have been subscribing Doug to their lists. Since he often travels overseas, he doesn’t join many of those, for obvious reasons (like being charged big-time for overseas access). So as a general rule, please don’t bulk-mail us! See the note above if you’d like to submit items for Brigada Today. Thanks for understanding. Bottom line: We will never create Brigada Today items from bulk mail. Bulk mail gets deleted immediately — sorry. Nothing personal. We suggest you apply the same standard to everyone. Ask first!

OPCWARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS — Please, before forwarding any kind of request (even if it says “please send this to all your friends”), please check to make sure it has a VERIFIABLE ORIGIN, a VERIFIABLE PURPOSE, and a VERIFIABLE CLOSURE (OPC). By following this simple approach, many “email viruses” could be nipped in the bud… at least in the Brigada family. More information about the full Brigada OPC protocol is available. Thank you.
