In a way, it looks like the “Cross” Conference is taking the place of the old “Urbana” deal, right? I wonder if they can attract the same numbers. Remember the “good ole’ days” when Urbana would draw 18,750 (the capacity of the dome coliseum at the University of IL)? Can Cross make it? See their site here…

Looking at the Cross website, it’s clear that, unlike the InterVarsity-sponsored Urbana student missionary conventions, which are broadly evangelical, Cross represents a narrowly neo-Calvinist perspective. For that reason, it’s likely to draw fewer participants than the Urbana conferences.
Pioneers is going to have a big presence there and found their previous conferences fruitful, as well. I share the concerns Ray mentioned about the doctrinal narrowness. If you’re not comfortable in an environment where Reformed theology is front-and-center, you might have a hard time at this conference. This conference also has a strong focus on mobilizing students for ministry to the world’s least-reached people, which is not emphasized as much in a broader mission event like Urbana.
Great insights — and helpful ones – both of you. Thanks.
