Worship has (rightfully) become a key component for today’s mission trips, vision trips, and prayer journeys. The trouble is, many worship leaders just bring a handful of their normal stuff. There’s nothing wrong with that, but what if we’re missing the boat on stuff that’s really good for mission trips in particular? So, for 100 points :-) (and the opportunity to help a brother or sister who is about to head for the bush), would you ‘Comment’ your favorite mission trip songs? In this week’s Brigada Today (in all the “even” items), we provide some samplers to get you started, making this Brigada Today a Special Missions Music Video Edition:
Live Like That – Sidewalk Prophets
We have been putting together a list of songs similar to this, but for worship services anywhere. We call it the Cruciform Music Project. We hope to see more songs that reflect the upward worship of God and His desire for us to reach outward sharing His love with others. We’re redoing the website and we always want to add to this list. Know of any songs to add? See the list here: http://www.followone.org/cruciform-music/cruciform-song-list
Our church choir has many times sung “Field of Souls” by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. We haven’t sung it for awhile now though as our soloist went as a missionary to Haiti! But it is a powerful mission (for both home and foreign) song.
Good choice, Shirlee!
Audio Adrenaline has another one out recently, “Kings and Queens” http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=WDGYYGNX
Also Jason Gray’s “Fade with our Voices” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7X3iGI-KBE
Finally, I like Sara Groves “I Saw what I Saw” in a debriefing, looking back context. http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=JJ1BJ1NU
Great stuff, Brian! Thanks for sharing these!
I’ve put together a list of some good mission trip songs here: http://missiontripsongs.com/songlist/.
These are more for using as a theme or for a video after the trip than for using to lead worship, but some of them could work for that too.
“Follow you” by Leeland
So glad I found this post!! I will be singing Leeland Follow You in January because of this post! I am going to Haiti in Feb and this song is perfect to share w/ our congregation!
