A few weeks ago we asked Brigada readers if they had tried Remitly (https://brigada.org/2025/03/16_42576) – an online money transfer service that allows you to send money internationally across over 100 currencies with no hidden fees. You can choose from various delivery options, including bank account transfers, mobile wallets, cash pickups, and home delivery, depending on your recipient’s location.
One reader mentioned that she has used Remitly, SendWave, and Western Union (thank you, Sharon). Another reader mentioned, “I’m excited to try this. I’ve been using Paypal until now.” What do you use? Please comment on your experience!
I’ve tried Remitly since reading your article about it. It’s prety good most of the time, though cancels transfers sometimes saying that the bank hasn’t approved the transfer, though the bank has no record of that happening. It’s nice that they show the fee being charged, it seems to be very straightforward. For sending to Kenya, Sendwave works really well and has no fees, sending to a mobile wallet anyway. Though they don’t allow the use of business debit cards and Remitly does. Thank you for the reference to them.

We use WISE with loads of success. It’s instant and very inexpensive.
Access to currencies does depend on which nation you are resident in, it seems that UK residents have access to over 30 currencies, whilst some others have a lot less.
It’s worth checking out
I have successfully used Xoom (subsidiary of PayPal) for overseas transfers. You could also try Worldremit.com.
