When you travel to another country, are there particular “rituals” you implement to help you deal with the craziness? I (Doug) sure have a lot. For example, I had a particular “station” in a cupboard where I kept all my international travel accessories. With one glance and in one pass, I could pick up my water filter (a Katadyn BeFree), my favorite plug/tip adaptor (which is something like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HQ9HK7B/ref=twister_B07RY9HLRK?_encoding=UTF8&th=1), a brown extension cord (because the only visible receptacle is always out of reach from the bed), my favorite international travel “pillow” (which is something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Trtl-Pillow-Scientifically-Support-Washable/dp/B00LB7REFK/ref=sr_1_8) and a lot more. Recently, something upset my apple cart and my international travel station completely vanished. I didn’t freak out or anything. I just tried to assemble all my accessories the best I could. But, alas, it didn’t work and I’m caught on my international trip without half my gear. When rituals break down, they generally unsettle us, don’t they? So what rituals do you implement for cross-cultural travel (including some of your favorite travel gear, please), and how do you handle it when your ritual gets interrupted? Please be forthright. Lay it on the line. : ) Click comment to share. The struggle is real.
