None of us were around for the advent of the printing press but we can all participate in the next step. Leave it to an org named after an Old Testament hero who faced seemingly impossible odds. The Gideons have a brand new bible app for Apple and Android devices. It has over 1100 languages with audio versions in most cases. The user just plugs in his/her country and language and, bam — The scripture appears in written form. It’s free, easy to use and simply amazing. One downloads a version when WiFi is available (e.g., in a major city). That version remains on the device when one is in the field and away from the hot spot. But the cool part is that the device is shareable via Bluetooth in the field. This app will be useful not only to locals, but to short-termers and professionals who can now give the gift of scripture without having to carry boxes of books, which sometimes might elevate one’s profile. Imagine — this is like a major revolution.
