*** To me, this one is up for grabs. I just know we need one. Some are advocating for “Last pass” which others still argue for Roboform. Norton wants you to use “Identity Safe.” Some are starting to talk about Dashlane, and others are saying “Keeper Password Manager.” And then there’s Sticky Password, 1Password, MSecure, PasswordBox, and I’m sure there are still others. To me, there’s no clear winner right now — but I’d love to be convinced otherwise. I just know we need this. Any opinions?
1Password has been a real winner for me. Never any tech problems with it and it will generate (and remember) passwords for you. The developers seem to keep up with all the apple iOS updates. I have it on my iphone and ipad so when I change it on one, it automatically updates to the other. My only complaint is, I would like to have it on my mac as well. They do have a mac version of it which apparently works seamlessly with the iPad/iphone. The only problem is they charge you for the mac version after you have already paid a hefty price (though in my opinion, worth it) for the iPad/iphone version.
A couple of basic questions that need to be asked:
Are you willing to pay for this service, or are you looking for a free alternative?
Do you want your passwords stored in the cloud (and from there be accessible to multiple devices), or do you only want to store them on your own device?
As for me, I want a free service, and I want the passwords on my one device only. Hence I use KeyPass2 (with HashCalc to create a practically unbreakable KeyPass2 password). I’ve been very happy with this solution.
Sticky Password is the one for me. You know what? Because you have an option to have your database on your PC, locally and to be offline. No other password manager I know has this option. They are all synchronized to the cloud. Sticky Password too, if you choose so. I want to have my passwords on my PC, that is why I use Sticky Password. The same works on their mobile platforms, you stay offline and you can synchronized via USB cable. It is not convenient, but much safer then trusting the cloud.
1Password since it’s early days.
Roboform for many years. Pretty dissatisfied with the android app UI and will probably switch to LastPass when my current subscription runs out.
However, Roboform has been glitch-free with a fairly complicated sync’ing structure that I use and has certainly done what I’ve asked it to.
