parasite defnThe general rule of thumb is this: If you can’t boil it, cook it or peel it – forget it. Unfortunately, most travelers don’t stick to these guidelines all of the time. It becomes incredibly important if you’re going to avoid “becoming what you eat.” Here are some starter ideas from the Mayo Clinic:

Avoid food from street vendors.
Avoid unpasteurized milk and dairy products, including ice cream.
Avoid raw or undercooked meat, fish and shellfish.
Steer clear of moist food at room temperature, such as sauces and buffet offerings.
Eat foods that are well cooked and served hot.

Having said all the above, parasites are still nasty. Got a good story you could share (anonymously if you like) regarding someone you know who acquired and beat parasites, … or perhaps they did NOT get parasites and theoretically should have! Now you can tell all. Must click Comment following the web version of this item. Thanks in advance for your help.
