Here’s a Christian worker in Nairobi, Kenya, who is really passionate about motivating and caring for African Christian workers in the mission field. What resources would you recommend? Videos? … Charts? Links? Please just complete a “Comment” below to give ideas. (Thanks in advance for your help and, Wairimu, thanks for your interest!)

Wairimu — I’m also in Nairobi and interested in the same thing. Conrad Mbewe in Lusaka posted a great blog post asking the question “Why are we not sending African missionaries?” http://www.conradmbewe.com/2012/07/why-are-we-not-sending-out-african.html — part of his answer is the lack of awareness and emphasis in African churches. Fortunately, that’s not universal. Just last week, Parklands Baptist Church commissioned 2 young men to go as long-term missionaries to the Turkana.
Some resources that come to mind are KORN (Kenya Outreach and Resource Network), Finish the Task, KAIROS, Life Challenge Africa, African-Asian Concern. All of these are officed in Nairobi. Our organization (IMB) is willing to help train Great Commission Partners. (Contact me at boballen (at) mail (dot) com, if you’re interested.)
Missions Exposure Training in Pretoria SA. It is a four or five week on site course designed to mobilize Africans to be missionaries to Africa. Offered in both French and English. For more information fo to http://www.metmissions.org.za.
Some great resources at Life Challenge Africa http://www.lifechallenge.de/
HIVHope facilitates seminars all over Africa that empower people to create innovative new ways to address HIV in their own cultures using motivation based primarily on hope with the understanding that the only source of true hope that will not disappoint is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Participants in the we have facilitated are now using the insights gained there and in other settings to slow the spread of the virus and replace stigma and discrimination with compassion, caring, and hope.
We have also published a book, HIV Hope for the Nations, that provides insights and information to help people find effective strategies for HIV education and ministry in their culture.
For more information, write me at duane@HIVHope.net.
We also worked in Kenya for over 10 years and found the recordings and picture books from Global Recordings Network (GRN) http://www.globalrecordings.net were invaluable for reaching the many language groups and particularly the non reader.
