  1. TWO NEW SPONSORS! — Thanks to our new sponsors this week… two anonymous gifts of $100 each. We appreciate your willingness to partner with us to get Brigada out the door and on your screen on time! To sponsor (via PayPal or by snail mail), just click on over to: https://brigada.org/donate.html for complete instructions. Thanks again!

  2. TOLL-FREE NUMBER FORWARDED TO YOUR PHONE — Now you can get a US toll free number forwarded to any phone in the world with no setup fee and low international rates. 3. SEE AN UNREACHED PEOPLE PROFILE IN 3 CLICKS — That’s what you can do now at the Joshua Project site. 1. Click on the Profiles main menu item 2. Select a country – page will refresh with appropriate peoples list 3. Select a people – page will refresh with the selected people profile On the People Profile, among other things, you can see all the people group specific ministry resources such as Bible translation status, Jesus film availability, audio recordings and radio broadcasting information with links directly into the associated website. An illustrative example is: http://www.joshuaproject.net/peopctry.php?rop3=103686&rog3=TH This resource is a *tremendous* step forward for all our networks, churches, and agencies. Let’s pause a moment and give thanks for Dan Scribner and the whole JP.net gang! Thanks for hanging in there, guys!

  4. BATTERY-OPERATED VIDEO PROJECTORS? — Thanks to Allen, for sending a summary of the responses to his questions about projecting video on the road using battery-operated equipment. Turns out that the majority of the responses recommended using a standard DVD, vcd, or vcr along with a multimedia-type projector that could be powered using a battery and an inverter to convert the 12 volt to 110 volts. The problem with this is the very high cost and very high consumption of power thus needing more than just a little battery power. So for now, Allen is back to the 16mm and generator. Apparently, the biggest obstacle is the excessive cost of the available multimedia projectors, the least expensive beginning at $800.00. Allen reported that there was one other option that he is still exploring, and that’s the type used by the “God’s Story” folks. It still uses a small generator, but very small in comparison to what the 16mm projectors require. (Thanks for reporting, Allen! We wish you the best in your continued quest! Don’t miss the very next item for one possible new option. :-) )

  5. SHOWING THE JESUS FILM? — Check out Airborne Ministries JET PAC (Jesus film Evangelism Tool PACkage). Airborne Ministries has an awesome compact video equipment set available for showing the Jesus Film. It’s especially designed for remote areas and unreached peoples. The airtight, waterproof case is a must when facing dusty roads or monsoon rains! It has traveled by plane, outrigger canoe, been strapped to a horse, and dragged behind a water buffalo to reach remote villages! The 45-lb. Pelican case contains a complete sound and video projection system, including minidv Jesus videos in appropriate languages and other Gospel videos when available. There is also a 29- lb. Honda generator to power the system. Airborne Ministries donates the labor to assemble the sets, and travels to field locations to train local ministers to use the video equipment effectively. They provide these sets at cost. For more info email Bill or check out http://www.airborneministries.org or call 772-778-9106 in the USA. </bill@duncklee.com>

  6. WHAT’S THE IMPACT OF SPAM? — Here’s the real long-term impact of all that unwanted email: That you won’t get the really *important* message someone was wanting to send you. Why? You will have unintentionally deleted it, along with all the junk mail! What can you do? If you can use Outlook 2003, the spam filter is reputed to be very good — with nearly 100% of spam-capture and very few “false positives.” I’m trying out Norton Antispam for the next few months. So far, it’s catching all but a few of the spams/day.

  7. SIDEBAR EFFECT OF SPAM, RELATIVE TO BRIGADA — Now here’s a corollary for Brigada. Let’s say you subscribe us to your group (without asking). We mark your email as spam… then you later write us an item that you’d like to submit, from the same address. You wonder why the item ever shows up… It’s because we’ve marked your address as spam — and now your message isn’t getting through. (Sorry about that!) Bottom line: It’s always more polite to ask before subscribing others to your list. (By the way: In 8 years of work on Brigada, we’ve never subscribed anyone else.)

  8. “TALKING BIBLE SUNDAY” — Audio Scriptures International (ASI) is reporting that the fledgling “Talking Bible Sunday Movement” is gaining momentum. According to ASI leadership, the slogan, “A Talking Bible Sunday in Every Church”, is taking hold. ASI is urging that in every church there be an annual “Talking Bible Sunday” with a special offering to help provide Talking Bibles to non-readers in their languages. The Talking Bible is a revolutionary, user-friendly, listening device the size and shape of a pew Bible in which an entire New Testament in a desired language is sealed inside. For more information go to http://www.audioscriptures.org For more information, write Harvey hthoek@juno.com toll-free or via Net2phone 1-800-318-7262.

  11. CUSTOMIZABLE MISSION EDUCATION — Are you looking for a new, more customizable way to do mission education with preschoolers, children, youth, and adults? If so, you may be interested in a resource called “WINGS: Catch the Wind of God’s Spirit” produced by Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia. It aims to help all of Jesus’ followers to become missionaries in their daily lives, and encourages teachers to draw on their own insights and cultural contexts. A leader’s guide is available now on cd-rom ($30) and will be available as a book/cd set ($50) in March 2004.
