WANT A BIBLE TO PUT IN YOUR WEB POCKET???

The palm-based Handheld PC market is growing, . . . and with it to the selection of books! Lately, we’ve also been hearing from people with PalmPilots, already using software that Windows C/E people are still dreaming about. Check out http://www.pilotzone.com/docs_religious.html for example, where one can find the NIV already set up for PalmPilots. Plus there are tons of other offerings as well. Thanks Jon!!!

GLOBAL GLIMPSE FROM THE TOP OF THE WORLD!

world globe The ’98 Himalayan Congress of Evangelism began April 20th at the picturesque Indian hill-station of Darjeeling emphasizing God’s call to the Nepali and Himalayan churches to move from being mission receiving to mission sending. About 1200 participants gathered including many Nepali and Tibetan key Christian leaders. These leaders met with mission agency representatives and explored how to link local needs with available resources. Three special forums focussed on:
  1. Literacy and Evangelism
  2. Training Needs for Mission, and
  3. Girls Caught in Brothels.

The congress concluded with an exuberant celebration of unity and commission.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, WEB ALL ABOUT IT!

Max McLean is a renowned storyteller and veteran actor whose one-man dramatic performances from the Bible have captivated audiences both young and old all across the country. Church, college, and youth groups listen with rapt attention as his arresting voice and magnetic style bring these extraordinary narratives vividly to life. In this clear and elegant digital recording, the words of the New Testament are delivered with such clarity and insight they rise off the printed page and flow into the hearts and minds of his listeners. Max’s recordings of the entire New Testament in RealAudio form are available from “Lightsource” on Broadcast.com (an excellent source for all sorts of audio/video resources, including the internet-only “pirate radio,” a great Christian music radio station, and the well known “Adventures in Odyssey”).

NEED SOME SHARP PICTURES OF YOUR UPCOMING MISSIONS TRIP?

One Brigada participant wrote this past week, “I am a photographer, and have photos that I am willing to allow missionaries and ministries use as long as I get photo credit. I am also willing to travel to the field and take photos for them as long as they pay all expenses. I was a missionary in Brazil, I am fluent in Portuguese, so Brazil would be especially easy for me to get around in. You can see more about that at my site: http://www.HolyLamb.com Also, http://www.christianmalls.net/ is just getting started, but I envision it as a place for the equipping of missionaries, and ministries. It has some resources like the forums that I hope will become more and more useful.” John Hanna, Caleb Project

SO WHY DID FRANCE WIN?

Last night my family and I returned home from leading a prayer journey in Bosnia. Although it meant missing the World Cup final, I asked 3 different people to tape it for me (just in case one of them forgot, I’d have two backups! :-)). I finally got to see the [delayed version of the] World Cup final, featuring France and Brazil in a 3-0 shut-out win — for France!!! With Brazil supposedly being the best team in the world right now, the question begs to be asked, “How did France pull it off?” I enjoyed the quip by the one American commentator, who explained the victory in part by quoting a journalist he had heard the previous week, “It’s not the foot, it’s the France.” That phrase, quoted by an expatriate who had lived in France some 25 years, could hold at least one of the keys. In the end, some experts agreed that some of the individuals on Brazil’s team were more skilled, but most of the 80,000 fans were pushing for France… and, as my 11-year-old (Christopher) says, “The ‘home field advantage’ is one of the most important factors in the game!” You see, when that home crowd unites, look out!

Perhaps the same thing can be said for missions. When a team of missionaries is fighting out there, an ocean apart from those who raised them and paid for their preparation, the field of life can seem pretty large and overwhelming. Add 80,000 fans and a few cheers and you’ve got yourself a ball game!

So — next time you send a team overseas — short-term or long — remember France ’98. Even if your team has to face opponents like Ronaldo, their attacks will sometimes melt before their very eyes if you cheer on your team! How do you do that??? With prayer, notes of encouragement, looking out for their best, holding them accountable to plans/visions/dreams, and by helping them find confidence and a will to win! If all those things are truly in place, maybe nobody will be able to stop your team!

not symbolPLEASE DON’T SUBSCRIBE US TO YOUR LIST — It’s always better to ask before manually force-adding anyone to your list-serve or mailing list. Recently, tons of well-meaning people have been subscribing Doug to their lists. Since he often travels overseas, he doesn’t join many of those, for obvious reasons (like being charged big-time for overseas access). So as a general rule, please don’t bulk-mail us! See the note above if you’d like to submit items for Brigada Today. Thanks for understanding. Bottom line: We will never create Brigada Today items from bulk mail. Bulk mail gets deleted immediately — sorry. Nothing personal. We suggest you apply the same standard to everyone. Ask first!

OPCWARNING ABOUT FORWARDING EMAILS — Please, before forwarding any kind of request (even if it says “please send this to all your friends”), please check to make sure it has a VERIFIABLE ORIGIN, a VERIFIABLE PURPOSE, and a VERIFIABLE CLOSURE (OPC). By following this simple approach, many “email viruses” could be nipped in the bud… at least in the Brigada family. More information about the full Brigada OPC protocol is available. Thank you.
