We continue to be shocked at the great information Missio Nexus provides for free. They have recently released data from the latest North American Mission Handbook. You can find it here: https://missionexus.org/missions-data/
We were surprised to see that almost half of all long-term field workers today are tentmakers and that well over half of field workers are long-term, despite an influx of short-term workers! What surprises you in this data?
Statistics are wonderful things, but they often do not tell a complete story. For example one large mission organization with more than a dozen sending offices and around 2000 missionaries are in the list under one sending office only, and so only have around 100 missionaries. I guess the other offices didn’t make the cut. And what about missionaries sent from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Germany, South Africa, and so on, not to forget South American countries like Brazil, and Asian countries like Korean, and now India sending out missionaries. Even China sends missionaries. So it seems these statistics only list agencies who belong to Missio Nexus. Which is fine. But these statistics should not be seen as a picture of what God is doing world wide. Maybe it is a better picture of what is happening in the USA and Canada.
