Could this be the one app for which I’ve (Doug) always searched? The app? Obsidian — https://obsidian.md/. Does it truly allow for local-first, offline-editable, online-end-to-end encrypted, synchronizing-between-devices-and-team-members notes? Using the free Community Plug-in, Operon, could it really be true that it provides for recurring tasks, task dependencies, and true confluence of notes and tasks forever? (Search Community Plug-ins and install Operon for free!) Is it as fast as it seems? Does the synchronization truly occur almost real-time? Is it just fun to use and quick to write? Is it really this reasonable for pricing? (Could the non-profit rate give full power for $6/month per user?) Is this the ultimate Evernote-killer, enlivening, souped-up story-keeper app to beat all others? We would be *thrilled* to hear your feedback.
10) Killer Note-taking, Task-Management App
Obsidian is great for *personal* local-first, offline-editable notes, in a format (Markdown) not dependent on the tool. Great editing experience; links between documents automatically adjust when renaming/moving. I’m using it as a daily driver for wiki-style notes and projects.
Before your post, I didn’t know about the Operon task management plugin, but it look interesting, so I’ll try some day.
Obsidian is free, even for commercial use, as long as you don’t use/need *their* (Obsidian) Sync (source: https://obsidian.md/pricing).
On most platforms (probably except iOS; in successful daily use on Linux, macOS, Windows, Android), you can synchronize between devices by any file synchronization method (I’m using Syncthing). This is *not good for groups*, because nothing would prevent simultaneous editing of the same file – you’d only notice when your synchronization tool starts complaining about conflicts.
You seem to need Obsidian Sync (4 USD/month/user) if you want to include iOS devices (not an issue here – who can/wants to afford the luxury of an iPhone anyway?) or if you need team collaboration. I do not have any experience with Obsidian Sync, so I can’t say whether it works well.
Hi Martin. Yes – we’re using Obsidian Sync to keep our notes in sync between my notes and my assistant’s notes — and with both our phones. It’s working great and is almost instantaneous. (We tried using “Relay,” but for us, it proved to be too slow – and sometimes didn’t sync at all.)
