Learning a new language is one of the biggest challenges for missionaries, but Language Transfer offers a unique and completely free way to get started. This project provides audio-based language courses designed to help learners understand how a language works, not just memorize vocabulary. Using what the creator calls the “Thinking Method,” the lessons guide you step-by-step through the structure of a language so you can begin forming sentences quickly and naturally.
Courses are available in several languages—including Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, French, Greek, Turkish, and more—and can be used online or through a mobile app, with no ads and no cost.
For missionaries, short-term teams, and anyone preparing for cross-cultural ministry, tools like this can be a helpful way to build confidence before arriving on the field.

Tip: Even listening to one lesson a day during travel, walking, or exercise can make language learning much more manageable.
I have used Duolingo to study modern Greek for several years. I got started because I LOVE Ancient Greek, and I was going on a Pauline Studies tour, and wanted to be able to SPEAK Greek when I was there. I DID GAIN some favor with the locals, as I attempted to communicate with them in Greek. However, having gone through the ENTIRE Duolingo material in Greek (I still do 1 lesson per day – about 3-4 minutes.
I downloaded the IOS app, and started working through the material as I was driving across town. I got to the place where I was thinking “this is a pretty LONG lesson, when I looked at the phone, and realized I had done FIVE lessons.
I think this course is pretty good. I’ll keep working at it, and perhaps report back. Thanks for mentioning it in Brigada.
