A Brigada reader needs help! How do you keep track of your budget when you have to convert from the currency of the country where you raised support to the currency of the country where you serve? What budget apps would you recommend that can handle converting from one currency to another? Please comment.
5) Budget App that Can Convert Currency
We use WISE, which allows accounts in multiple currencies and reduces transaction fees; but also splitwise is good for keeping track of who spends what, in which currency and for what. Not sure if this is 100% what you’re looking for, but with WISE, you can have 100% of your spending money in your account(s), and this will go down to 0 as you spend, no matter what currency you spend in.
Splitwise only keeps track of spending, not how much you have left.
Lunch Money might work for you (https://lunchmoney.app/) but it’s a paid app. If you want free, I think you would probably have to make your own custom Google spreadsheet like this person did: https://medium.com/swlh/multi-currency-budgeting-for-digital-nomads-68da7687e3d1
I was trying to switch from Quicken, which we have used for years to handle multi-currency expense tracking, but does not have a good Mac solution for multi-currency. I tried Lunch Money and it works. I didn’t make the switch because Quicken for Windows is much easier to use in my opinion. There are other programs out there which do multi-currency but so far I have not found one better than Quicken for Windows.
